What is Botox® and how does it work for Excessive Sweating?
Botox® neurotoxin is a purified protein that helps control sweating by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands, thereby preventing sweat from being produced in the treatment area.
After the Botox® injections have been administered, sweating is usually controlled for 6 to 8 months. On average, repeat treatments are required every 6 months as the effects begin to diminish.
Does it hurt?
Our trained physician and assistants will ensure that there is minimal to no pain during the injections. We are one of the only clinics in Ontario that use the U225 French injector that uses speed and precision to inject the Botox painlessly. This allows us to offer a more comfortable treatment that any other injection technique.
How long does the treatment take?
The length of treatment depends on the area being treated. On average, the treatments are completed in 10 to 20 minutes.
How long does it take to reduce sweating?
The reduction in sweating begins to take effect in the first few days, but it may take up to 1 week to reach full effectiveness.
Is this treatment for everyone?
There are very few restrictions regarding Botox® treatments for Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
Will Botox® treatment be covered by my private drug plan?
An injection fee is charged for performing the procedure, but the cost of the medication is covered by most private drug plans.
