How to Prepare for a Facial Appointment

Facials are one of the most classic skincare treatments. Not only do they refresh your skin, but they also provide some much needed you time! If you’ve never had a professional spa facial before though, you may be wondering how you should prep for it. Here are a few tips to get you ready for your facial appointment!

Avoid At-Home Treatments

The day or two before your appointment it’s a good idea to slow down on the at-home skincare treatments. Maintain your usual skincare routine, but avoid any strong cleansers or exfoliation. This will be taken care of during the facial, and too much exfoliation can damage your skin.

Stay Out of the Sun

Be sure to avoid spending a lot of time in the sun for about a week before your facial. Sun damage and skincare don’t always mix well. Avoid spray tans as well, as this could all be undone during the facial. It’s a good idea to stay out of the sun for a few days after your facial appointment as well.

Come Fresh Faced

Whether or not you show up to your facial appointment in a full face of makeup often depends on the person and the appointment time. Just know that your face will be cleansed, and all makeup removed, during the facial. So if your facial is the first stop on your day, you can save yourself some time by skipping makeup that day.

Disclose Any Medications

If you are taking any medications, or have a medical condition, especially a skin condition, please let your esthetician know. The last thing they’ll want to do it make the situation worse. It’s always a good idea to be honest about your medical history. At AFYA, we do not judge anyone’s medical situation, but sometimes we need to be made aware of it.
